Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as it is known today may be the veritable cliche -A shopper's paradise. The key feature of shopping throughout the main city of Vietnam would it be is tourist oriented, almost everything offered is meant for consumption through the hordes of visiting tourists. Having a minimum of a basic expertise in bargaining would benefit you because there are many attractive items on show, through the usual touristy fare to elegant antiques and souvenirs.

The shops in Ho Chi Minh City or elsewhere in Vietnam are not even close to being drab; they may be a riot of colour from extensive decorative attempt to the colorful knick knacks on display, along with can be an enticing prospect for tourists. The streets in the city are lined with small outlets selling indigenously produced toys, souvenirs and clothing many of which have become cost-effective. Shopping in Vietnam can be a mixture of small vendors peddling locally made handicrafts to large western style department stores selling a lot more up market fare.

The main outdoor markets in Ho Chi Minh are Ben Thanh Market, the night time Market and also the War surplus market. The most important from the lot is the Ben Thanh Market, that's instantly recognized by the big clock tower at the traffic circle. It's a large old fashioned outdoor market with countless narrow alleyways who have store fronts. This can be a unique destination to visit for collectors and Vietnam War veterans, although the authenticity of the ware can not be verified.
